Colorado College survived by the skin of its teeth on Saturday – thanks, believe it or not, to the third line.

Junior winger Addison DeBoer stuffed in the game-winning goal on a wrap-around from behind the net at 2:49 of overtime, giving CC a 4-3 sudden-death victory over the University of Alaska Anchorage and a split of their two-game series at Sullivan Arena.

The No. 3-ranked Tigers improved to 8-3-3 overall and 6-3-1 in WCHA play to remain second in the league standings, two points behind first-place Minnesota, which dropped a 4-0 decision in Denver. But it wasn’t easy by any means.

The Seawolves rallied from behind on two occasions, forcing the extra session with their second shorthanded tally of the weekend with 5:09 left in regulation. It was the second goal of the game for sophomore forward Tommy Grant, who earlier knotted the contest at 1-1 midway through the second period.

Alaska Anchorage took its only lead of the night at 16:33 of that middle frame, when Kevin Clark steered a centering pass from defenseman Curtis Leinweber past CC goaltender Richard Bachman.

The 2-1 lead was short-lived, as Bill Sweatt scored on a backhand after winning a battle for the puck in the low slot just 26 seconds later. Freshman defenseman Gabe Guentzel put Colorado College ahead 3-2 at 6:53 of the third period, poking home a rebound from inside the crease after UAA netminder Jon Olthuis got a piece of Eric Walsky’s shot during a CC power play. The assist was Walsky’s second of the game.

Chad Rau, who teamed up with Walsky to set up Sweatt’s red lighter, staked the Tigers to a 1-0 advantage with a power-play goal at 1:11 of the second period. The two points gave Rau 20 for the season and lifted him into a tie for the WCHA overall lead.

DeBoer’s game winner marked CC's first five-on-five goal by someone other than Rau, Sweatt or Walsky since sophomore defenseman Ryan Lowery scored a 3-2 victory over DU on Nov. 2.
